Look Inside the Studio

A look inside the studio as preparations began around creating the collection of oil stick and charcoal drawings featured here. Each drawing, to use language from Achille Bonito Oliva, Director of the 1993 Venice Biennial in the 1996 catalog from the exhibition, “germinates and multiplies with unexpected placements that unfold”.

There is a physical presence to these drawings, the heavy layering of oil stick and charcoal build to create texture and dimensionality, a playful and open approach to geometry. Bridging the space between drawings and sculptures executed by Schatz from this period.
