Graphite Tones on Lake Michigan
A photograph featuring a landscape in graphite tones on Lake Michigan recently. Thinking about Auguste Rodin’s Testament and in particular his arguments for how to model a form when looking at these clouds, who seem to exemplify his ideas:

“When you model, do not ever think in terms of surface, but of relief. Let your mind conceive all surface as the extremity of a volume that is pushed out from the back. Imagine the forms as being pointed towards you. All life surges from the center, then grows and blossoms from the inside towards the outside.”
