Darkroom: Museum of Contemporary Photography

Darkroom Museum of Contemporary Photography

In advance of “Darkroom” the Museum of Contemporary Photography’s annual benefit auction on February 29th at Columbia College, Chicago (https://www.mocp.org/events/darkroom-2024/), which I’ve been lucky enough to co-chair this year, I sat down with The North Shore Weekend to talk about what inspires me and keeps me engaged as an artist today.

The Museum of Contemporary Photography’s annual benefit auction on February 29th at Columbia College will honor both Dawoud Bey @dawoudbey and Jason Pickleman @jasonpickleman. As a part of the benefit auction, I am donating a morning on the lake alongside me as I photograph for the Lake Series, for a bidder and 4 to 6 friends. We’ll have breakfast at Tweet, surrounded by and engaging with the remarkable and singular photography collection of owner Michelle Fire. Included in this donation is a framed photograph from that morning on the lake together.

Included in my conversation were Brett Gorvy’s @brettgorvy thoughtful and thought-provoking engagements with literature and art online. I’ve been reading God, Human, Animal, Machine by Meghan O’Giebly, a book bridging cultural myths, AI and the way in which AI fits within a larger historical framework. I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to highlight Sam Harris’ @samharrisorg Daily Meditation program on the Waking Up app. It’s become another daily practice that has helped shape my relationship to the world around me.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the @mocpchi benefit and please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about the event at all. I have included a link in my bio to the event page.
