Purple Ice Lake

First light is just arriving to an ice covered Lake Michigan as winter sets in. Purple tones, almost unreal are reminiscent of the iridescenct colors that flash from butterfly wings. The clouds are perched in the sky above, frozen in place. I’m alone this morning. A rarity on the lake during summer months. However when winter comes, fewer and fewer people make their way to the lakefront. The stillness of winter on the lake is remarkable and something I look forward to each year.
