America: Elevations
Exposed rock formations, canyons, foothills and mountains populate these photographs. The harsh conditions leave much of this landscape undeveloped. The impact of humans, industry and agriculture can however, still be found.
In the dry brush and grasslands of Wyoming, fences and power lines are just visible. Faintly appearing in the distance. Cutting the land in two. Dividing and separating. Given the vastness of these landscapes, to decide where to position a fence feels like an absurd gesture.

The further down you travel in these quarries, canyons and reservoirs, the further back in time you travel. Stretching from before the dinosaurs to now, each layer another millenia. All of this history comes together to create the landscape we see in these photographs by Lincoln Schatz.
Mountains are continuously reshaped by weather and time. Providing fertile growing conditions in their valleys in early spring.
