This small stand of trees are stripped bare of almost all of their leaves in this winter Chicago forest. The branches create complex interlocking patterns that weave together to form a dense fabric of autumnal colors. The nature of trees, their structure, growth habits and patterns are endlessly fascinating to me. And while a forest in full summer growth is a striking thing to experience, there is something about a winter day, clear and cold in the golden hour, that holds incredible beauty to me when I walk through these trees.
