Chicago Ice

Chicago Ice

A frozen landscape from 2019 where Chicago turned to ice. A winter that had both heavy snow and deep cold periods. Here, in this photo from The Shore edition, the city is coming to life in the background. Steam climbing into the skies from the tops of towers and buildings. Ephemerally and temporarily linking earth and air.

We did not see ice like this in 2023. While there was cold weather and winter storms, the lake remained largely open and moving. Certainly nothing like the thick and solid ice found here on February 1st, 2019, from the Lake Series.
