Transformations: Yachats and Gearhart, Oregon
Along the coast of Oregon lay forests, beaches and cliff faces teeming with. From fern beds to moss to barnacles clutching rocks along the water’s edge, waves cresting on black sand beaches to trees draped with rich in color. The photographs found above study the landscapes of Oregon in both great detail and in the expansive ocean and it’s beauty.
Transformations: Zion Canyon, Utah – Valles Caldera, New Mexico – Elk Mountains, Colorado and Teton Range, Wyoming
Spanning four states in scope, these nature photos by Lincoln Schatz explore the surfaces of boulders, rocks and cliff faces in the Western United States. The rich and varied surfaces of the stone themselves, as well as the lichen and moss that grows upon them, create entire worlds of texture, color and variation that is as captivating as it is often subtle.
Snake River Range, Wyoming & Big Sky, Montana
Snow drapes the mountains, lichen and moss do likewise on the trees in the forest found at lower elevations. So many of these natural materials; lichen, moss, snow, ice and fog have a delicacy to them that tells a story of environment, climate and the world that surrounds us. A delicacy and a peace is found in each of the photographs found here from the Transformation series.
Submerged Rocks, Lake Michigan
These photographs have been taken throughout the process of the Lake Series project that explores the daily changes to Lake Michigan’s contours. The rocks that sit just beneath the surface of the lake are their own worlds, subtlety shifting colors flash from the water, rippling textures of deep hues and tones. These Lake Michigan nature photos are part of a larger set of projects focused around Lake Michigan pictures studying the shore, water and the spaces in between as a part of the Transformations series.
